possibility to set different background pictures for portrait and landscape screen
orientations, improved support of multiple monitor systems,
command line interface, better performance.
Version 5.3.5, April 29, 2007
The version features numerous Ultra-Mobile PC-oriented
usability improvements.
Version 5.3, February 03, 2007
This release features better integration with Windows Vista;
new options in defining application window management rules;
possibility to define "default applications" for each screen page,
and start them all using a single command;
and a number of new options in configuring visual appearance of goScreen.
Version 5.2.5, April 30, 2006
This version features enhanced user interface and
several fixes in application windows handling.
Version 5.2, November 06, 2005
This version features
new options in user interface windows configuration
and in visual appearance, new shortcut commands,
and better integration with Windows XP.
Version 5.1, April 09, 2005
Most changes introduced in this version are internal.
Redesigned application window filtering fixes improper handling of
several classes of applications.
Version 5.0, February 10, 2005
The version features application window layout management,
possibility to start several instances of goScreen on multi-monitor
systems to manage different PC monitors independently, and
possibility to create and use different configuration profiles
in registry.
Version 4.1, June 21, 2004
This version features new installer that has been re-written almost completely.
There is a number of usability improvements, new shortcut commands,
enhanced application management rules.
Version 4.0, September 02, 2003
GoScreen now supports multiple monitor systems.
There are numerous Tablet PC-oriented usability improvements and optimizations
(which also means better behavior on desktop PCs and notebooks).
The new version features better performance, redesigned user interface
(Properties dialog boxes),
has a number of new configuration options, contains several fixes for Windows XP.
Version 3.5, January 05, 2003
It is now possible to put screen page buttons on the system tray: these icons resemble
"normal" screen page buttons and act like ones.
It is possible to copy an application from an inactive screen page to the current, active one.
GoScreen is now capable of monitoring "hidden activation": applications on
inactive screen pages which for some reason become active.
New "contents menu" feature makes it possible to find an application and go to the
corresponding screen page with a single mouse click.
GoScreen now completely supports "right-to-left" layout needed for Middle Eastern languages.
There is also a long list of minor improvements and tune-ups.
Version 3.4, May 04, 2002
GoScreen now supports using JPG and GIF files as a background picture.
Window map has got a keyboard interface: it is possible to activate screen pages or
applications using keyboard only. Also, now it is possible to auto-hide Window map
while in a floating state.
Added Run tool, which makes it possible to start other applications or open documents.
Unlike standard Windows Run dialog box, this one can start several applications at once.
Also, each screen page has its own list of applications (documents), which gives better
opportunities for customization.
Added X-Mouse function. It is possible to activate an application on the active
screen page by pointing on it, not only by clicking.
Added new options in Mouse command shortcuts: it is possible to use screen corners as "hot zones".
There is also a number of minor optimizations, including tune-up for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Version 3.3, June 14, 2001
This version fixes the problem with sometimes disappearing Windows Explorer and
Internet Explorer windows. It happens only on some PCs, when Internet Explorer opens
a javascript popup window: Explorer windows on inactive screen pages get closed. It was
never a problem with goScreen - this way Explorer is implemented. Now there is an option
to handle Explorer windows differently, so they do not disappear.
I believe this fix is so important, that I have decided to release this version
as soos as possible, without any other changes.
Version 3.2, March 23, 2001
There is a new Window map tool.
Unlike textual Window list introduced in v3.1, Window map is
graphical representation of existing screen pages and what applications are running
on what page. Each application is represented here by its icon.
There are also several cosmetic improvements: Window list became
multi-column (if you have more than 40 application
windows open at once, you will probably value this), all comboboxes now have
adjustable dropdown width etc.
Version 3.1, October 20, 2000
There is a new Window list tool, that lets you relocate an application
from one screen page to another by dragging its title.
Page information display is considerably improved. You may position it almost anywhere
on the screen and make it permanent.
New commands are added to the list, for which you may define your own keyboard
or mouse shortcuts.
Now you can make goScreen working with configuration file instead of Windows registry.
Version 3.0, May 14, 2000
Improved "rules" functionality: now one can define rules
for applications that do not have task bar entries. Also, now it is possible to assign
an application to several screen pages, as opposed to "all or one" in previous
versions - you can create logical workspaces which extend to more than one screen page.
New feature is the possibility to display screen page number and/or name
- similar to displaying the channel number on TV screen.
Other improvements include the possibility to define background picture display style
(Center/Tile/Stretch) - specific to each screen page, enlarged list of keyboard/mouse
shortcuts to goScreen commands, proper handling of changes in monitor screen resolution
(goScreen does not disappear outside of the visible area of the monitor).
Also, the UNICODE build of goScreen is now available.
Version 2.8, January 02, 2000
Improved application management: introduction of "rules",
which let you automatically assign an application to a specific screen page or
make it sticky (that is to show them on all screen pages).
Version 2.7, October 03, 1999
GoScreen becomes multi-lingual. It is available in 9 languages.
Version 2.6, June 16, 1999
GoScreen panel now can be "docked" to a screen edge.
Changed implementation of attaching goScreen to the Windows task bar (system tray icon
instead of "attachment"). Introduction of "menu spot".
Also, now one can move an application from the active screen page (before this version
only to). Introduction of gsRes.dll - first step in making goscreen multi-lingual.
Version 2.5, May 05, 1999
A number of new configuration and navigation options.
Now you can switch screen pages (go to the next or previous page) with the help
of keyboard hot keys, or by moving the mouse cursor to the edge of the monitor
screen. Also, there is a support for accessing most recently used pages.
One can specify a separate desktop background color for each screen page,
use Windows icons as page button names, specify his/her own colors for page buttons
to make them more distinctive.
Introduction of "hidden pages", which provide with a sort of
security mechanism, where such a hot key combination is a password.
Now Page properties dialog box also has tool tips.
Version 2.2, February 16, 1999
Ability to stick a window, that is show it on all screen pages.
Version 2.1, January 23, 1999
Introduction of gsSetup - installation/deinstallation program.
Help file becomes HTML one.
One can now install a hot key to activate a screen page and set up
a specific background picture to each screen page.
Version 2.0, October 20, 1998
Now one can assign names to screen page buttons and attach goScreen
to the Windows task bar (this again has been changed later on). About box now has
tool tips (fly-by windows that explain settings)
Version 1.7, September 11, 1998
Fixed several problems reported by users.
GoScreen is now available for online registration with RegNow.
Version 1.6, August 25, 1998
Ability to show/hide window controls on the goscreen control panel,
ability to change its color. Improved information display - also shows applications
on the active screen page.
Major architectural change (invisible to users), added keyboard commands
to switch screen pages (this functionality has been changed considerably later on).
Version 1.4, August 08, 1998
Added "current screen page" command to "send back"
windows from other screen pages to their original locations. Added commands for
"all windows" (restore/minimize/maximize/close) on the active screen page.
Also, tool tip font is now editable.
Version 1.2, July 18, 1998
Improved window management and navigation, added some sort of visual
feedback to page buttons - "button ribs", added a popup menu to
"non-button" area to easily enumerate and find programs on inactive
screen pages.
Also, version 1.2 is much more crash proof.
Version 1.0, July 10, 1998
First release.
